Julia Anne Burgess was born July 22, 1843, in Ohio. At the age of 12 she moved with her parents to Michigan where she remained until 1875. During this time in Michigan, she began teaching school at age 14 and continued teaching for 10 years.

At that point, 1868, when she was 25, she married John Orr Corliss. From that point, she gave “her life to the work in which her husband was engaged.”

Through these years, John and Julia had five children with three of them dying as children: Fred, born Feb 4, 1873. Dies Oct 24, 1873. Louie, born ??. Died Aug 23, 1876. Lou, born Jan 18, 1875. Died as a child Lula, born Mar 21, 1877. Burr, born Jan 3, 1882.

This information taken from the diaries is somewhat incomplete. The dates given come from entries by Julia marking the anniversary of these events.

Julia died quite suddenly of pneumonia while at camp meeting in southern California on Aug 16, 1912.
