He began denominational service in 1921, as a publishing director in Switzerland. In 1923 he became a teacher at Seminaire Adventiste du Saleve in Collonges, France, assuming its presidency in 1935. From 1941-1946, he taught history and served as academic dean of Southern College, helping to upgrade it to senior status. In 1946 Walther became chairman of the Church History Department of the SDA Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., and he moved with the Seminary to Andrews Univ. After his official retirement in 1967, he continued to serve seven more years as president of Solusi College, history teacher at Helderberg College, and finally back to Europe as advisor to Adventist Colleges Abroad. In 1974 Walther retired and returned to Southern College to teach part-time and serve for brief periods overseas in Haiti and Zaire. Survivors include his wife, Louise Olsen; and one son, David Walther, Concord, Mass.; and four grandchil-dren.

Content Description The Daniel Walther collection consists principally of the writings and class notes of Dr. Walther, long time professor of church history at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary. Another section is a topical file containing material collected on his various travels and on topics of interest to him.
