Biographical

Born in 1857 to Seventh-day Adventist parents, Joseph H. Haughey graduated in 1882 from Battle Creek College. Following graduation he taught at South Lancaster Academy in Massachusetts before moving to Emmanuel Missionary College in Berrien Springs, Michigan. He also taught at public schools in St. Joseph, Michigan, and Carrollton, Missouri. At Berrien Springs he showed a mastery of a wide range of subjects, serving as chair of astronomy, ancient languages, mathematics, and others. In 1924, after forty-two years of dedicated teaching, poor health forced him to retire, passing away in 1935. The Andrews University Math and Physics Science building is named in honor of Joseph H. Haughey.
