Elmer Ellsworth Andross was born April 8, 1868 in Ottawa, Minnesota. During his childhood his family moved to Oregon where Andross was baptized into the Methodist Church at the age of 15. Two years later he joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Milton, Oregon following tent meetings led by H. W. Decker. In 1889 Andross married Sophie P. Miller with whom he had two sons. Andross’denominational career began in 1888 when he joined Elder Decker as tent master. For the next 55 years he labored in evangelism, education, ministry, and church administration in Oregon, California, England, the Columbia Union, the Southern California Conference, the North American Division, and the Inter-America Division. In 1920, three years after his first wife’s death, Andross married Matilda Erickson.

Andross retired to Takoma Park, Maryland in the 1941 (although he briefly returned to the Inter-America Division following his retirement) where he died August 22, 1950.

Content Description This collection contains many of Andross’ articles, sermon outlines, and several topical files including correspondence related to the revision of Uriah Smith’s Daniel and the Revelation. There is also a memo book with notes taken during his travels in Africa and Asia.
