Biographical
Peter Edgar Hare (Apr 14, 1933 to May 5, 2006) was born in Maymyo, Burma, to missionary parents, Eric and Agnes Hare. He graduated from Pacific Union College in 1954 and married Patti Martin. In 1955 he completed a mater’s degree from University of California Berkeley and returned to Pacific Union College to teach chemistry. He earned his PhD in organic geochemistry from Caltech in 1962. The next year he began to work with the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C.’s Geophysical Laboratory as a research scientist where he remained for 35 years. He developed an amino acid agedating technique and collaborated with scientists around the world (“Hare, Peter Edgar, Daytona Beech News, Journal Online–Deaths, May 10, 2006).

This collection contains biographical materials, appointment calendars, his dissertation, and some writings. The collection bulk consists of Hare’s personal files in relation to the subject of science and religion. There are also a few VHS video recordings, CDs and cassettes of his seminars and family events.
