Newman, A. R.

Augustus R. Newman was born in Newfoundland, Canada. In 1940 he served as director of a Dorcas welfare ministry on Tremont Street in Boston, later named the Boston Mission Helping Hand. A building next door was purchased in 1956, and was converted into an evangelistic center named the Seventh-day Adventist Mission Chapel. Newman supervised these welfare ministries for over two decades, providing food, clothing, and medical treatment.\

This collection contains the remaining papers of A. R. Newman.They are almost exclusively related to his work in welfare and inner-city missions in the Boston, Massachusetts area.
