Biographical
William Warren Prescott (1855-1944) was an educator and administrator in the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He was educated at South Berwick Academy in Maine,
and Dartmouth College in Massachusetts. He served as president of Battle Creek College (1885-1894) and while president there, Prescott helped found Union College, becoming its president in 1891, and also became president of newly established Walla Walla College in 1892, thereby overseeing three colleges as president all at one time in 1892.
Prescott also served the church as preacher, writer, editor, and administrator. In 1901, he became vice president of the General Conference, chair of the Review and Herald Publishing Association board, and editor of the Review and Herald. In 1909, he relinquished the editorship of the Review and took charge of the Protestant Magazine. He was a General Conference field secretary from 1915 until his retirement in 1937. His primary contribution was in the field of religious education, which shaped Adventist educational philosophy and institutions for years to come.
He was also a leading voice at the 1919 Bible Conference.
