Charles Henry Watson was born at Aringa, in the Port Fairy district of Victoria, Australia 1877. At first bitterly opposed to the Seventh-day Adventism embraced by members of his family, Watson accepted the Advent Message in early adulthood and embarked on a long career of missionary and administrative service. Appointed first to Maitland, New South Wales in 1909, then after his ordination in 1912, to the presidency of the Queensland Conference, Elder Watson tirelessly served the mission program of his church. He became vice-president in 1915. Within four years he consolidated the foreign missions program of his conference, and in 1920 organized the Australasian Conference Association. Elder Watson's financial integrity, business acumen, and administrative skills soon were recognized by the leadership of his church. In 1922, he became vice-president and associate treasurer of the General Conference. Four years later, he returned to the presidency of the Australasian Union Conference to supervise the expansion in home field conferences and a large rebuilding program. Elected to the presidency of the General Conference in 1930, Elder Watson for six years steered the Church through the storms of world economic depression. He returned to the Australasian Division in 1936 and later became president of the Australasian Union Conference. Though he relinquished his position in 1938, Elder Watson continued to serve as president of the Australasian Division until his retirement in 1944. He died in 1962 at age 85.
