Identifier: Collection 176

Content Description

This collection consists of 19 diaries written by Roberto Cols from 1955 to 1980, and one record of baptisms from 1955 to 1980. The records are all in Spanish. Roberto Cols was a pastor in the Western Cuba Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. When 1955 began he was a licensed minister. During the year he became an ordained minister, a function he maintained until 1978. From the mid-1960s onward, he served as the president of a local provincial field subordinate to the conference president. He served on the conference executive committee. Reportedly, Pastor Cols was much beloved by his parishioners. He was almost like an angel to many of them.

Provenance

This collection was brought to the Adventist Heritage Center by Caleb Rosado who apparently obtained it from the Roberto Cols family in Cuba. Rosado used it in is dissertation, Sect and Party: Religion Under Revolution in Cuba, 1985. Rosado did not know how to get the collection back to the family in Cuba, so he gave it to the Adventist Heritage Center. In 1997, the family asked for the originals to be returned. The Adventist Heritage Center retained photocopies of the originals.
