Julia Anne Corliss Diary
Content Description
This diary is simply that, a diary where Julia recorded events and anniversaries in her life and that of her family. You can follow John’s work through the various places they lived. Julia records a wide range of activities. Someone typed a transcript of the 1863 to 1869 and 1883 to 1891 diary entries. This transcript, however, is “selected.” A complete transcript is available for the 1863 to 1869 and the 1883 to 1891 diary entries. This complete transcript was transcribed by Juliette Johnson in 2017 and 2018. The early years are a challenge to read, but the later years are easier. These problems are exacerbated by the fact that our copy of the diary is a photocopy.

Provenance
In 1977-1978, the diaries were in possession of Mildred C. Martin, a granddaughter of Julia Corliss through her father, Burr Corliss. At that time she allowed Sam Croft to make this photocopy. Mildred then moved and the original diaries were lost as far as we know. In 1996, Sam Croft allowed Merlin Burt of the Loma Linda University Heritage Room, to review the diaries. Croft eventually gave the diaries to Burt as a personal gift. In 2010, Burt placed the diaries in the Andrews University Center for Adventist Research. Croft planed to publish the diaries or do something else with them, but never did. From what we know, Croft has died so the Center feels free to make them available to the public.
