Biographical
H.M.S. Richards Jr. was well known in Seventh-day Adventist circles as the speaker/director of the Voice of Prophecy radio broadcast. Harold Marshall Sylvester Richards, Jr. was born on October 25, 1929 in Los Angeles, California to H.M.S. Sr. and Mabel Richards. He attended La Sierra College and pastored for eight years, mostly in Texas. He married Mary and had three children, Harold III, Jon Lyall, and Mary Margaret Richards-King. Richards served from 1960 to 1969 as the assistant to his father, H.M.S. Richards Sr., founder of the radio ministry. In 1969, he became the speaker/director of the ministry while his father became his assistant. Richards, Jr. retired from the speaker/director position in 1992 while still accepting speaking and evangelistic engagement until 1999. He passed away due to heart failure on April 11, 2000 at Glendale Adventist Medical Center near his home in southern California.

The H.M.S. Richards Jr. Papers are series of personal documents that are closely related to the Voice of Prophecy. Two of the largest and likely most interesting series are his appointment books for the last 15 years of his work as VOP director/speaker, and an extensive collection of folders containing plans, sermons, and other information on his many evangelistic meetings from 1962 to 1994.
