Biographical

Barbara Phipps (1915-2003) was a librarian at Emmanuel Missionary College, and later at Pacific Union College. Her parents, Burton H. and Nettie Eaton Phipps, met in southern Illinois as colporteurs. At the time Nettie was the secretary-treasurer of the Southern Illinois Conference located in Springfield. Her parents married on June 3, 1914 and two years later Barbara was born.

Content Description The bulk of this collection centers around Burton Phipps’ 32-year tenure as a teacher and later head of the Emmanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) Biology department. During this time Barbara graduated from Emmanuel Missionary College, taught for a few years, and then returned where she became a librarian in the College library.
