Biographical
           
             Barbara Phipps' father, Burton, was a career biologist. He began teaching in 1911 at an academy in Indiana followed by time spent at Adelphian Academy in Holly, Michigan. This was followed by four years of teaching at Atlantic Union College.

Content Description
             The bulk of this collection centers around Burton Phipps’ 32-year tenure as a teacher and later head of the Emmanuel Missionary College (now Andrews University) Biology department. During this time Barbara graduated from Emmanuel Missionary College, taught for a few years, and then returned where she became a librarian in the College library.
