Content Description

This collection provides a wide ranging view of this remarkable man and his accomplishments. There are many personal items including his extensive diaries. Along with the diaries there are recordings Horn made where he narrates his life. The cassette tapes have been updated to new media for preservation purposes. This collection also contains a good number of letters from 1929 to 1976, and 1993. There are some documents of Horn’s and of his three wives, some personal artifacts, a significant collection of photograph albums, his traveling reports, and awards and appreciations. Another interesting series is his personal collection of maps. In the last part, there are some writings of Siegfried Horn, and materials for the book, Survivor: A Biography of Siegfried Horn, written by Joyce Rochat.

Arrangement

Siegfried Horn was a very meticulous recorder of details and a stickler for documentation. This is reflected to a great degree in this collection. Nearly everything was carefully labeled often with great detail including, for example, the listing of everyone shown in a group photograph. The collection was, therefore, fairly well arranged within general categories or series when it was received at the Center for Adventist Research. However it was not possible to tell the relationship of the series to each other. Therefore, the sequence of the series in this collections organization is artificial. The arrangement of the series are as follows:

Bibliography

Within each section the folders are arranged by person and then in a somewhat chronological arrangement. The letters and diaries are chronological, and the writings are chronological as well. If there are no dates in one section, the arrangement is alphabetical.

The items removed are either discarded or made a part of the Centers other collections.
