Biographical
Frederick Griggs (1867-1952), was a Seventh-day Adventist educator and administrator. He was educated at Battle Creek College, the University of Buffalo, and Washington Missionary College. He married Blanche Eggleston in 1892. While principal of the Preparatory School of Battle Creek College (1890-1899), he strongly advocated establishing a teacher-training school, with the result that in 1896 he became the first head of such a school connected with a Seventh-day Adventist college.
He held the following positions after his time at Battle Creek College 1899-1907 Principal, South Lancaster Academy 1903-1910 Secretary, General Conference Department of Education 1910-1914 President, Union College 1915-1918 Secretary, General Conference Department of Education 1918-1925 President, Emmanuel Missionary College 1925-1930 Field Secretary, Far Eastern Division 1931-1936 President, Far Eastern Division 1936-1938 President, China Division
After returning to the United States in 1938, Griggs held for 11 years the chairmanship of the Board of Trustees of the College of Medical Evangelists and of the Pacific Press.
His first wife, Blanche, died in 1939. In 1940 he married Mabel Shaffer Murrin. He died at the White Memorial Hospital on August 10, 1952.
