The Frederick Griggs Papers: Arnold C. Reye Collection contains Frederick Griggs’ correspondence from 1892 to 1949, and several other documents regarding his life and work. This collection is a significant portion of the material Reye collected during his dissertation research. His dissertation is entitled, Frederick Griggs: Seventh-day Adventist Educator and Administrator. Besides Griggs’ correspondence we find in the collection: Blanche Griggs’ diaries from 1916 to 1923 (incomplete); the manuscript “Frederick Griggs, Man of Vision, Molder of Lives” by M. C. Kuhn; “A report on F. Griggs’ Educational Theory,” by Arnold C. Reye; Memorials on F. Griggs from several individuals (Reye’s correspondence); and other documents related to him.

Arrangement

The material is kept in chronological and topical sequence, in much the same order as received. Much of the material comes from the General Conference Archives. The Archives uses RG for record group followed by a number designating a department or service. Griggs materials are sourced as follows:

Box 1 mostly comes from RG 11 (Presidential)

Box 2 and 3 are from a mix of RG 9 (General and Historical), RG 11 (Presidential), RG 17 (Field Secretary), RG 21 (Secretariat), RG 31 (Treasury), LLUHR, CH 1 (China Division Minutes), and FE 1 (Far Eastern Division Minutes)
